Favre Drama Ends in Packers Mourning

My phone blew up late last night like a Pimp's cell at the Summer Olympics as friends were texting me to go buy a Jets number 4 jersey. My thoughts all over the map but the JETS? WTF?

Check back for my emotional rant on Favre's diva behavior, Aaron Rodgers being the next Jay Fiedler and the egotistical prick Packers GM, Ted Thompson.

Favre is no longer a PACKER!!

UPDATE: This post is spot on describing the newfound Packer fan haters of Favre.

This comment on a Packer Geeks Blog post sums up most of my feelings about Brett Favre no longer being the QB for the Pack but the New York Jets.

On the field, Favre played with joy. He never posed, or gloated or whined. He played, and he celebrated and he scolded himself for his mistakes. On the field, he won more games and threw more touchdowns (and interceptions) than any person ever in the history of the NFL.

On the back of this success, Green Bay returned to its glory. It became a place where free agents came to play, and a stop on the road to the division championship. And, we’ll repeat this for emphasis: During Favre’s 16 years in Green bay, no team in the NFL had a better record. The Packers returned to the Super Bowl, rebuilt their stadium, their practice facility, and their image as a winner. They brought the Lombardi Trophy back to Titletown.

Favre was not the only person responsible for all of that. But the 3-time MVP was the most important factor.

Ted Thompson just traded away the best quarterback in the NFC last year, the best player in Packers history, the quarterback with more wins and touchdowns than any other quarterback in history of the league, who is coming off a pro-bowl season with 13 wins, a run deep into the playoffs and the best completion percentage of his career … for a middling draft pick.

The three quarterbacks remaining on the roster have 0 NFL starts, and one TD between them. The team is one injury away from being forced to start a rookie under center.

There is not much you could say to convince me that this isn’t negligent management.

Ted Thompson spent the better part of five weeks doing everything in his power to keep Favre from playing for the team, apparently so that Ted could play his draft choice. You can moan and groan all you want about Favre changing his mind about retiring. You can pick over the clumsy, disingenuous PR volleys from both sides and the bickering.

But fact is: Thompson could have had Favre as QB this year, and he stubbornly clung to lazy metaphors and a decision he made a month ago (perhaps three years ago) to “move on”. Thompson has to take responsibility for that decision.

Regarding this entire saga, I will say this: Favre deserved better. The fans deserved better. I do not and never will understand how a Packer fan who has watched Favre play could ever categorize him in the same category as malcontent wideouts who are more interested in paydays than wins of the field. I will never understand how Favre changing his mind about playing outweighs the fact that he is the greatest instinctual quarterback in the game, the best chance for a Super Bowl this year.

I don’t understand the animosity from so many fans, and frankly I’m not much in the mood to have someone try to explain it to me again. I think those people have forgotten. Forgotten last season. Forgotten the 15 seasons prior. Forgotten Favre vomiting blood on the sideline. And forgotten all those years we suffered through Dickey, Whitehurst, Wright, Campbell, Majkowski.

I don’t agree with those who argue that Favre’s poor sense of strategic career planning justifies his rejection. I never will agree with that. Let’s leave it at that.

Favre Wants To Play Again

The world might really be ending soon since I am embedding a video from a Fox News program but here is Brett Favre's interview last night.

I hope Packers GM Ted Thompson/Mike McCarthy can swallow their egos and allow Favre to play for Green Bay again. After some internal debate, I am ready to roll this fall with number 4 behind center and take home the NFC North divisional title again.

Waffle Humpers Changing the Budweiser Formula?

I leave my normal elitist NW DC society for the hills of West Virginia and I return to nothing but more bad news.

• The Packers want to make Brett Favre a back up and he responds on a Fox News show by basically calling the Packers brass liars. The situation is getting real ugly and this public strife potentially could rip apart Cheesehead nation. I will post more thoughts later on this never ending PR debacle and when did Aaron Rodgers become the next Steve Young?
  

• The Bush Administration, who pump up the fruits of the free market economy and personal financial responsibility at every opportunity, again bails out 2 corporations who willingly made horrible investment choices on bunk mortgage loans. Capitalism or Nationalism? hmmmmmmm. The layers of our self inflicted financial housing market mess continue to peel away. I predict some major banks and construction companies will be going belly up very soon. It is not a good sign for the economy when bankers are losing money.
  

• However, the story that really irks me is our number one American brewery, Aneheuser-Busch, was purchased by the Belgium conglomerate In Bev. Budweiser is going to be own by Belgium!! WTF? Where is the US patriotic media outrage when you need it?(Cue Fox News, Right Radio Pundits, Matt Drudge, Michelle Malkin, etc) Do I need to produce some false In Bev terrorist links to light a fire under their blow hards asses? There is nothing more Americana than enjoying a Bud Tall Boy but now it is owned by Euros. F that. I can always count on Stephen Colbert to rip the "Waffle Humping Belgians" a new one.

"It's All Rumor"

My legendary man crush Brett Favre is back in the news with speculation he wants to unretire and return to the Packers. I am getting called out for a response in the sports blog world and by my friends. Honestly, I have no idea what to feel at all. I spent the whole off season mourning his retirement and preparing myself for the "Mullet with a Bullet" era to begin.

It is like you spent a good chunk of time mentally getting over an ex-girlfriend after years of her threatening to leave you and then to have her jump back in your life to request another whirl. The sex was GREAT and her body was dynamite so it is tempting to hop back in the saddle.

If my choices are to watch number 4 for Packers or another team, it is a no brainer. I could never deal with him playing for another squad. Packers GM, Ted Thompson and Favre have never had a good relationship. This comeback news does put Thompson in a no win situation.

Favre can still play, he is a known commodity compared to Rodgers and this Packers team is stacked for a title run. I do not believe the "distraction" angle of this story at all either and most current Packers would love to have Favre back.

I am still as emotionally confused as the baby of the transgender man will be someday soon.

Favre most likely will stay retired but I will don the Favre jersey again in heartbeat if needed this fall.

It has been a rough go for Cheeseheads and Fudge Packer fans everywhere. This video takes a little out of the sting of the Packers losing the NFC title game at home and Brett Favre retiring.



My initial thought was what a great Favre tribute song followed up by thinking that this girl singer, Annette Summersett, is kinda hot. I wonder what she looks like with less clothes on.

Number 4 Says Goodbye

I am speechless and emotional as one of my favorite athletes of all time decided to hang it up for good.

Well number 4, it has been a helluva ride ever since that 1992 comeback win against the Bengals. You single handily turned the storied Packer franchise around from the laughingstock it had dwindled to in the 1980s and created a whole generation of avid Cheeseheads nationwide.

For all those Favre haters out there who care less about the Packers and have constantly complained about his retirement plans or interceptions, eat a fat dick. Are you happy now?

Marino, Elway or Montana were never treated this way at the end of their careers. I hope Brady and Peyton are able to go out on their own terms as well without the abuse by opponents' fans.

Favre can take some redemption from the doubters out of the improbable 2007 Packers' successful season.

Number 4 leaves the game with his fastball, his pride and every meaningful NFL passing record.

In August 2013, I will be sure to think about the haters when I am sporting my Favre jersey in Canton, Ohio.

This sounds weird but watching number 4 on fall Sundays has been the one constant in my life for 16 years and I just have two words: thank you.

I have been a Packer fan all of my life and even before the Brett Favre era. Lynn Dickey and Majik Man, what? Tim Harris and Brent Fullwood, who?

However, Number 4 brought excitement and more importantly success to my favorite NFL team. I will save my 2000 word Fellatio filled essay on Favre for another day but in honor of the big game on Sunday, I found some awesome You Tube Clips.

Before my detailed rave about firing everyone, from the top down, who works at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I found this amazingly funny movie clip of the 3 of the 4 main people responsible for turning the Packers franchise around in the early 90s.

Reggie White, Brett Favre, and Mike Holmgren. (Ex-GM Ron Wolf would be the other one.)

It is from the movie, "Reggie's Prayer."

Favre and Holmgren are both janitors. Favre's character is named Bert and he is a little on the slow side.

White is the football coach and Holmgren gives him a play to run called the "Left Coast Special."
