DR. TOM is BAAAACCCCKKK!

Tom Osborne will be named the school's interim athletic director at a 6:15pm est, Tuesday press conference.

Osborne met with Perlman this morning to discuss the interim post and Osborne agreed to serve, on an open-ended arrangement, until Perlman finds a permanent athletics director.

Osborne said he looks forward to the challenge.

"I've spent the majority of my life working with the Athletic Department at the university and I want to do what I can at this point to continue in the pursuit of excellence that has been previously established," he said.

Osborne will take over the job right away. AWESOME!

I will continue take credit for this historic expedient upheaval by starting the Fire Steve Pederson Blog, hours after the Missouri debacle.

Husker Nation, you are welcome. I think it is the first time as a sports fans that what I proposed doing, actually happened. I wanted the AD fired and replaced by Dr. Tom. A fresh cleansing of the Callahan staff would be my winning trifecta ticket!

Now if I could only finally end the Iraq occupation, have people stop believing the distortions spewed daily at them by Fox News and stop the government from spying on us without warrants. Oh well.

Husker AD Steve Pedseron has been FIRED!

Various Nebraska media outlets are reporting that embattled Nebraska Cornhusker AD, Steve Pederson has been fired. A press conference is scheduled in a few hours to announce the decision. Pederson met with University of Nebraska at Lincoln Chancellor, Harvey Perlman earlier today.

Speculation is swirling that legendary coach Dr. Tom Osborne will be replacing Pederson as new athletic director and Osborne's son has stated that he will accept the position if asked.
No word yet on the status of the Husker coaching staff.

I would like to take credit and pat myself on the back for starting this blog(Fire Steve Pederson)less than 10 days ago and having the mission of the blog come to fruition in such a short time period. This has to be a blogosphere record for the fire.com sites and thank You Fire Ron Zook.com for starting it all.

UPDATE: LIVE PRESS CONFERENCE

"I guess that means he was fired!" Great quote by UNL Chancellor Perlman answering the question of whether or not Pederson accepted his resignation request. Pederson gets a 2.2 million buy out of his existing contract. Perlman will not make any staff changes and leave that up to new AD. He will seek out Osborne's advice but he is not named AD. (At least not yet.) Perlman just mentioned that he does not read blogs but he gets stuff sent to him. More proof of the impact of firestevepederson.com. Awesome.

Perlman is getting testy when constantly asked about Osborne and he just quoted head coach Bill Callahan about his upcoming decision of finding a new AD. He just muttered something about going back to being a law school professor if he needs to. Perlman summed up the events of today by referencing how Nebraska Statehood was more important? HUH?

The press conference ended and people started clapping, another bizarre occurrence.

I will never try attempt to live blog a press conference like this again. I am not even sure this Perlman guy should be running the University of Nebraska. At least he admitted his mistake of hiring Pederson and is cutting his losses to move on, which is more than can said about the Bush administration's failed Iraq policy.

Can I start with the speculation? Bill Parcells. Just Kidding. Get a young AD with no Nebraska ties and have him hire a Defensive minded head coach. Then raid the staff of Florida or West Virginia for an offensive coordinator who knows the spread offense.

Husker fans would love the ability to see QB running again but still have the ability to pick up 3rd and longs through the air. The spread is the progressive way to go offensively in college football.

Or throw a boatload of money at Cal's head coach Jeff Tefford as he is struggling to get state of the art facilities built because some crazy hippies will not get down from some trees on Berkley's campus. I am not even making this up.

Hiring TO as an interim AD would ease the transition to a new staff and not completely devastate recruiting. The last thing Nebraska needs is a lame duck coaching staff until late January and getting TO would not completely tear everything down.

Thank YOU Perlman for getting some BALLS and ridding the state of its number one egotistical fiend. Now, 2007 Husker squad can you go play some inspired, "us against the world, F the media, the fans" football on Saturday?
