"We're Moving Forward"

F U McCarthy! F U Ted "Prick" Thomspon! F U Murphy! The following picture is a total nightmare.

It makes me want to weep like a baby.

Is it too early to start drinking?

Just to be on the record and answer the mocking questions of my friends, I will NOT be cheering for the Fn Jets. Go Pack Go!

Favre Drama Ends in Packers Mourning

My phone blew up late last night like a Pimp's cell at the Summer Olympics as friends were texting me to go buy a Jets number 4 jersey. My thoughts all over the map but the JETS? WTF?

Check back for my emotional rant on Favre's diva behavior, Aaron Rodgers being the next Jay Fiedler and the egotistical prick Packers GM, Ted Thompson.

Favre is no longer a PACKER!!

UPDATE: This post is spot on describing the newfound Packer fan haters of Favre.

This comment on a Packer Geeks Blog post sums up most of my feelings about Brett Favre no longer being the QB for the Pack but the New York Jets.

cheese0317 Says:

I remember, when I was little my Dad cursing Lynn Dickey’s crooked legs and limp arm. I remember hoping David Whitehurst could be a better answer, hoping that he might lead them to the playoffs. I remember growing older, and more skeptical about Rich Campbell. The Randy Wright fiasco seemed hopeless. Anthony Dilweg isn’t worth mentioning. The Packers were a joke, a loser, and some whispered that the town might never be able to field a champion. Then came Don Majkowski’s torn rotator cuff. The most glorious torn rotator cuff in the history of my life.

The Favre Era dawned.

Over the next 16 seasons, Favre started every game and during that period no team in the NFL had a better win-loss record. Favre vomited blood on the sidelines and then returned to the field to rocket a touchdown pass. Favre played his best game, a must-win game for the Pack, 24 hours after the unexpected death of his father, his best friend. Favre won a Super Bowl. Let me repeat that: Favre won a Super Bowl. Off the field, Favre never bitched about money, and only renegotiated his contract when the Packers needed cap space.

On the field, Favre played with joy. He never posed, or gloated or whined. He played, and he celebrated and he scolded himself for his mistakes. On the field, he won more games and threw more touchdowns (and interceptions) than any person ever in the history of the NFL.

On the back of this success, Green Bay returned to its glory. It became a place where free agents came to play, and a stop on the road to the division championship. And, we’ll repeat this for emphasis: During Favre’s 16 years in Green bay, no team in the NFL had a better record. The Packers returned to the Super Bowl, rebuilt their stadium, their practice facility, and their image as a winner. They brought the Lombardi Trophy back to Titletown.

Favre was not the only person responsible for all of that. But the 3-time MVP was the most important factor.

And here it is in black and white:

Ted Thompson just traded away the best quarterback in the NFC last year, the best player in Packers history, the quarterback with more wins and touchdowns than any other quarterback in history of the league, who is coming off a pro-bowl season with 13 wins, a run deep into the playoffs and the best completion percentage of his career … for a middling draft pick.

The three quarterbacks remaining on the roster have 0 NFL starts, and one TD between them. The team is one injury away from being forced to start a rookie under center.

There is not much you could say to convince me that this isn’t negligent management.

Ted Thompson spent the better part of five weeks doing everything in his power to keep Favre from playing for the team, apparently so that Ted could play his draft choice. You can moan and groan all you want about Favre changing his mind about retiring. You can pick over the clumsy, disingenuous PR volleys from both sides and the bickering.

But fact is: Thompson could have had Favre as QB this year, and he stubbornly clung to lazy metaphors and a decision he made a month ago (perhaps three years ago) to “move on”. Thompson has to take responsibility for that decision.

Regarding this entire saga, I will say this: Favre deserved better. The fans deserved better. I do not and never will understand how a Packer fan who has watched Favre play could ever categorize him in the same category as malcontent wideouts who are more interested in paydays than wins of the field. I will never understand how Favre changing his mind about playing outweighs the fact that he is the greatest instinctual quarterback in the game, the best chance for a Super Bowl this year.

I don’t understand the animosity from so many fans, and frankly I’m not much in the mood to have someone try to explain it to me again. I think those people have forgotten. Forgotten last season. Forgotten the 15 seasons prior. Forgotten Favre vomiting blood on the sideline. And forgotten all those years we suffered through Dickey, Whitehurst, Wright, Campbell, Majkowski.

I don’t agree with those who argue that Favre’s poor sense of strategic career planning justifies his rejection. I never will agree with that. Let’s leave it at that.

And let’s leave at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-6Ny_eErqs

Favre Wants To Play Again

The world might really be ending soon since I am embedding a video from a Fox News program but here is Brett Favre's interview last night.

I hope Packers GM Ted Thompson/Mike McCarthy can swallow their egos and allow Favre to play for Green Bay again. After some internal debate, I am ready to roll this fall with number 4 behind center and take home the NFC North divisional title again.

Sports fans, TV talking bobble heads, scribes, and bloggers can pile on Favre all they want. He deserves most of the criticism but since none of them have a rooting interest in the Packers success on NFL game days, I give a rats ass about their opinions.

HT: Awful Announcing

Waffle Humpers Changing the Budweiser Formula?

I leave my normal elitist NW DC society for the hills of West Virginia and I return to nothing but more bad news.

  • The Packers want to make Brett Favre a back up and he responds on a Fox News show by basically calling the Packers brass liars. The situation is getting real ugly and this public strife potentially could rip apart Cheesehead nation. I will post more thoughts later on this never ending PR debacle and when did Aaron Rodgers become the next Steve Young?
  • The Bush Administration, who pump up the fruits of the free market economy and personal financial responsibility at every opportunity, again bails out 2 corporations who willingly made horrible investment choices on bunk mortgage loans. Capitalism or Nationalism? hmmmmmmm. The layers of our self inflicted financial housing market mess continue to peel away. I predict some major banks and construction companies will be going belly up very soon. It is not a good sign for the economy when bankers are losing money.
  • However, the story that really irks me is our number one American brewery, Aneheuser-Busch, was purchased by the Belgium conglomerate In Bev. Budweiser is going to be own by Belgium!! WTF? Where is the US patriotic media outrage when you need it?(Cue Fox News, Right Radio Pundits, Matt Drudge, Michelle Malkin, etc) Do I need to produce some false In Bev terrorist links to light a fire under their blow hards asses? There is nothing more Americana than enjoying a Bud Tall Boy but now it is owned by Euros. F that. I can always count on Stephen Colbert to rip the "Waffle Humping Belgians" a new one.

"It's All Rumor"

My legendary man crush Brett Favre is back in the news with speculation he wants to unretire and return to the Packers. I am getting called out for a response in the sports blog world and by my friends. Honestly, I have no idea what to feel at all. I spent the whole off season mourning his retirement and preparing myself for the "Mullet with a Bullet" era to begin.

It is like you spent a good chunk of time mentally getting over an ex-girlfriend after years of her threatening to leave you and then to have her jump back in your life to request another whirl. The sex was GREAT and her body was dynamite so it is tempting to hop back in the saddle.

If my choices are to watch number 4 for Packers or another team, it is a no brainer. I could never deal with him playing for another squad. Packers GM, Ted Thompson and Favre have never had a good relationship. This comeback news does put Thompson in a no win situation.

Favre can still play, he is a known commodity compared to Rodgers and this Packers team is stacked for a title run. I do not believe the "distraction" angle of this story at all either and most current Packers would love to have Favre back.

I am still as emotionally confused as the baby of the transgender man will be someday soon.

Favre most likely will stay retired but I will don the Favre jersey again in heartbeat if needed this fall.

I am an easy FudgePacker slut.

"I Will Wear My Brett Favre Jersey Until the Day that I Die"

It has been a rough go for Cheeseheads and Fudge Packer fans everywhere. This video takes a little out of the sting of the Packers losing the NFC title game at home and Brett Favre retiring.

My initial thought was what a great Favre tribute song followed up by thinking that this girl singer, Annette Summersett, is kinda hot. I wonder what she looks like with less clothes on.

God Bless google search and social sites.

The Mullet with a Bullet

I am still in Favre mourning but I am looking forward to seeing what Aaron Rodgers aka, "The Mullet with a Bullet" can do with this young talented Packer offense in 2008. Go Pack Go!

Number 4 Says Goodbye

I am speechless and emotional as one of my favorite athletes of all time decided to hang it up for good.

Well number 4, it has been a helluva ride ever since that 1992 comeback win against the Bengals. You single handily turned the storied Packer franchise around from the laughingstock it had dwindled to in the 1980s and created a whole generation of avid Cheeseheads nationwide.

For all those Favre haters out there who care less about the Packers and have constantly complained about his retirement plans or interceptions, eat a fat dick. Are you happy now?

Marino, Elway or Montana were never treated this way at the end of their careers. I hope Brady and Peyton are able to go out on their own terms as well without the abuse by opponents' fans.

Favre can take some redemption from the doubters out of the improbable 2007 Packers' successful season.

Number 4 leaves the game with his fastball, his pride and every meaningful NFL passing record.

In August 2013, I will be sure to think about the haters when I am sporting my Favre jersey in Canton, Ohio.

This sounds weird but watching number 4 on fall Sundays has been the one constant in my life for 16 years and I just have two words: thank you.

Picture of the Day

(Picture from Pro Football Talk)

This is a panoramic shot of Favre's pick in OT. The worst player to throw in this situation was the one he chose with his fatal toss.

Unlike congressional members of the republican party, who rarely publicly criticize or disagree with our awful president on anything, I can rip my favorite football player of all time when he deserves it.

The Packers still had a magical season and a large part had to do with Favre's improved play. Yeah, I am still bitter about the Giants loss. Jury duty has not really helped me clear my head either.

This seems to be one of the lamest Super Bowl media weeks in a long time, with no real story lines. Check out my man Chris from Mr. I covering today's media "event" for The Sporting Blog. Funny Stuff.

Packer Fan Grief

My will for anything in life suddenly hit rock bottom as Tynes field goal hooked left to beat Green Bay. The Giants outplayed the Packers in every facet of the game and deserved to win. I hope they beat the Pats.

I have not felt this bad since Eagles WR's Freddie Mitchell's catch on 4th&26, 49ers TO's last second game winning TD grab and the Broncos upset of the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII.
Here are the 5 stages of my current Packer fan grief:

  1. Denial- The Packers lose the NFC title game at home to the Giants led by Eli Manning? NO WAY! Eli's throws sailed to his WRs instead of Packer defenders. I thought Eli sucked in cold weather too.

  2. Anger- What was McCarthy doing abandoning the run so early in the 2nd half? How about calling more slants to Jennings and Driver? The short passing game, which was unstoppable all season, was MIA. Where was the Packers D? Favre's gunslinger act cost them the game. The Refs Fd the Packers on numerous calls. Why do I care about sports? I hate them and I am going to start following the Opera.

  3. Bargaining-If the Giants take out the Patriots, this loss will not seem as bad.

  4. Depression- I can not watch any football related programming for weeks and I might skip the Super Bowl. I do not want to get out bed, eat food or drink booze. The Packers might not get to another NFC title game again in my lifetime. My sports idol's (Favre) career might be over. A ex coworker was going to possibly hook me up with a Super Bowl ticket and I even had a place to crash in Phoenix. Now on that weekend, I will be going to Miss So Bell's family wedding. The Sports God's hate me.

  5. Acceptance- The Packers had an amazing improbable season, going from 8-8 to 14-4 and were one OT scoring drive away from a Super Bowl berth. This talented team is young, has a favorable cap number and in case Favre hangs it up, Aaron Rodgers is a capable NFL QB. Favre set every passing record and was instrumental in Green Bay's resurgence. The future looks bright for the organization.

I am already in stage 4 and once I get to acceptance, I will be able to write again. Word, Mac G.

Favre Fellatio

I have been a Packer fan all of my life and even before the Brett Favre era. Lynn Dickey and Majik Man, what? Tim Harris and Brent Fullwood, who?

However, Number 4 brought excitement and more importantly success to my favorite NFL team. I will save my 2000 word Fellatio filled essay on Favre for another day but in honor of the big game on Sunday, I found some awesome You Tube Clips.

Busted Coverage might be on top something about Favre's college aged daughter being a hottie. Brittney Favre's genes are working in her favor.

This video gives me chills.

Here are some classic Brett Favre off the cuff moments.

NFL Quarterfinal Recap

The main themes from last weekend's NFL quarterfinal playoff games were dropped balls and the ability or inability to effectively rush the QB.

Both played key roles in determining the outcome of each game. This was obviously apparent in clean post game jerseys of Tom Brady/Phillip Rivers/Brett Favre and the butterfingers of Marcus Pollard/Patrick Crayton/Dennis Northcut.

Packers over the Seahawks
I could not think of a worse beginning of this game for the Packers after spotting the Seasquawks 14-0. On a personal note, I was nursing a major hang over and the early deficit forced me to hop back on the booze train.

The second seasquawks TD was ruled a force out and this is the 3rd time the Packers have been screwed by this awful rule. Earlier this fall, I wrote on Epic Carnival about the need for the NFL to allow replay on this highly questionable call. It cost the Browns a playoff berth.

The Packers scored on 6 straight TDs as Ryan Grant overcame 2 early fumbles, rambling for 200 yards. Favre's passes were crisper than the bills at Strip Club ATM machine. Ball Game.

The hyped up Seasquawks defense was non existent and the Packers had their way all day. I am still waiting for the missing person report on All Pro DE Patrick Kerney. The underrated Packers defense brought their A game and Atari Bigby laid some serious wood on several occasions.

If some one would have told me in September that a RB named Ryan Grants would lead the Packers to the NFC title game, I would have asked where they got the good hydro.

Patriots over Jaguars
The Jags made a valiant effort but the Patriots displayed why they are the favored team to win it all and on a path to make history.

Brady surgically picked apart the Jags defense, who were unable to generate any pressure all game. Brady's statue of liberty goal line fake symbolized this point as he had at least 8-10 seconds before finding Wes Welker in the back of the end zone for the TD.

I compare beating the Patriots to playing Tiger Woods in the back nine of a final round. Par is not going defeat Tiger, only birdies maybe will.

The Jags had a shot but TD drops by Northcutt and Matt Jones made them settle for FGs aka pars, while the Pats were holing out birdies on every 2nd half TD drive.

Chargers over Colts
Man did I eat some crow on this one and I thought the Colts would roll. I was Norv Turner and Phillip River's hater. I believed in the Colts defense, who had been one of the NFL's top units all season. They were a no show, producing zero pass rush and no big plays as the Chargers rolled up 400 plus yards in total offense.

Peyton almost led the Colts to victory but 2 red zone turnovers killed their chances. The big hit on Reggie Wayne on the last drive was a huge play for the Chargers. The Colts did not deserve to win after giving up a go ahead TD drive in the final quarter to the Chargers backup QB(Billy Volek) and RB(Michael Turner). Championship teams do not allow that to happen.

I still heart Colts Safety bad ass and defensive NFL MVP, Bobby "da hitman" Sanders. The penalty he was called for after giving a tap to his boy and ex hawkeye teammate, Chargers kicker Kato for missing a FG was awesome.

It was total BS but it was pretty cool to see two Hawks getting attention on national TV. Trust me, Hawkeye football fans need all the excitement they can get these days.

Giants beat Cowboys
The GMen pulled off the upset in Big D because they were able to consistently harass Tony Romo in the 2nd half. He was never comfortable in the pocket at all and his WRs let him down with several drops. Crayton's 3rd down drop in the 4th quarter

Eli did not make any huge mistakes and the Giants WRs exposed the weaknesses of the Cowboys secondary. Cowboy Safety Roy Williams being a pro bowler is a bigger joke than the Cowboys having 12 pro bowlers to the Packers 4. Williams can not tackle or cover anymore.

The Giants TD before the half was huge and it took the momentum back from Dallas, who had just went on a 20 play TD drive. I did not like the Giants conservative play calling at the end of the game but their D stepped up to seal the victory.

I made it through a Cowboys summary of their playoff loss without mentioning TO or that no talent buxom blonde's effect on Romo. This has to be a record.

The NFL's version of the Final Frozen Four takes place on Sunday with low temps expected in Green Bay and Boston. I am cold just thinking about it. GO Pack GO.

GO PACK GO

Mike Florio thinks the Packers could be on a verge of a dynasty. Woo Now and Easy Killer. I am just hoping for a victory over the Gmen on Sunday.

Reggie's Prayer

Before my detailed rave about firing everyone, from the top down, who works at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I found this amazingly funny movie clip of the 3 of the 4 main people responsible for turning the Packers franchise around in the early 90s.

Reggie White, Brett Favre, and Mike Holmgren. (Ex-GM Ron Wolf would be the other one.)

It is from the movie, "Reggie's Prayer."

Favre and Holmgren are both janitors. Favre's character is named Bert and he is a little on the slow side.

White is the football coach and Holmgren gives him a play to run called the "Left Coast Special."

I am a Packers fan and this had me rolling. Enjoy and Happy FRYDAY!

Pack Lose to Cowgirls, Hey Refs, TAKE THAT!

Currently, my head feels as discombobulated as Bryant Gumbel's throat. Get that man some red bulls to pound during a broadcast, dude was killing me last night.

I should have picked up some light beer last night for the big game because chugging dark microbeer always leaves you extra groggy in the morning. Pick up a 12 pack of Magic Hat's "Feast of Fools" winter beer as it is quite delicious.

What a crazy, entertaining game last night and since I am nut job Cheese head, I was not too happy with the outcome. The Cowboys Offensive Line dominated the Packers leaving Romo all day to slice up Green Bay's shoty coverage and Packers played their worst defensive game all season.

Ultimately, the Cowboys made more plays than the Pack but man oh man, Green Bay was screwed on several huge game changing calls.

Al Harris picked the ball away from TO and the refs signaled Green Bay's ball, however, some dumb ass official blew the play dead and they could not overturn the call on replay. Truly a HORRIBLE call that I did not think could be topped until the 4th quarter.

The Cowboys were up 3 and threw a bomb down the field. WR and DB feet got tangled as the DB was looking back at the ball. The ref 10 feet from the play does not throw a flag as it was your typical no call but all of sudden a flag came out from 40 yards away from the incident! TheCowboys get the ball at the Packers 5 and score a crucial TD.

I am tired of these old refs in their 40s and 50s making these decisions and I think it is time to have some young blood aka, guys with better reflexes than these jokers.

Packers down 10, driving with 5 minutes left. Ryan Clark gets a horrible spot on a 3rd down run and he is clearly past the marker. This sets up a 4th down decision on the Cowboys 34 yard line I hate to invoke his name or this question, but "What would Bill Bellicheck do?"

Of course he would go for it but McCarthy decides to be a pussy and kick a FG. I understand the Packers still would need 2 scores no matter what but kicking a long FG instead of going for it on 4th and inches tells me that you are putting the onus on the defense to stop them.

However, The Packers D had not been able to do that very well all game. Plus, scoring a TD in that situation gives the team momentum and allows the possibility to hold Dallas to a FG but still be within one score.

Packers kick to cut the lead to 7. Dallas gets the ball and runs out most of the clock, kicking a FG to make the final outcome, 37-27

The Packers still could have won this game but they deserved to lose it as well. Allowing Dallas a first down on 3rd&19 from their own 5 was the biggest play of the game. Pack could not tackle Barber or cover Witten late in the game.

If the Packers can secure the second seed, they will be back in Dallas for a rematch. I am hoping number 4 will be healthy or Aaron Rodgers, "The Mullet with a Bullet," will keep up his surprising stellar play.

Check out this blog that breaks down the crappy calls against the Packers.

KING FAVRE

When my favorite NFL team and player connect on a TD Bomb on the first play of overtime to win the game to go 6-1, expect some love on Mac G's World. WHAT A TOSS! One of the Shortest OTs of all time and right in the face of those Denver Donkeys. Yes, I am still bitter over Favre's Super Bowl loss. TD, Steve Atwater, and Mr Ed Elway still haunt my dreams.

This game could have gone either way as both teams made plays to win and lose it. GBay continues to find ways to win and I am having a hard time going to bed right now. This Packer High is too intoxicating and it feels even better after going through the past 2 difficult seasons.

Very few peeps that read my gibberish care about the Green and Gold so I will save my multiple paragraph analysis for chain emails to Packer buddies but I will agree that ESPN went WAY overboard on covering Favre and his wife. I am all about her cause of breast cancer but it is irrelevant to talk about it DURING the game.

Having Vince Vaughn stammer about his opinion on the state of the Bears with 10 minutes left in a 3 point game is even more pointless. Kornheiser's mindless dribble and corny jokes are unbearable. His main punch lines is to exaggerate something over and over. It might be clever or witty the first time, the 20th time, it is just stale and old. The worst part is that he is starting to rub off on Jaws and taking him down with him.

Check Out Jennings talking about the biggest catch of his professional life.

NFL Fans are Crazy!

One of the secrets of the NFL, aside from their reliance on gambling/fantasy to fuel the sports popularity or the continual downplaying of players' head trauma injuries, is the outrageous fan behavior at games. They revel in getting BOMBED and starting fights. It is spectacle in itself and their actions border criminal behavior.

I have attended a few NFL games in recent years and each time I have worried about my personal safety. I witnessed numerous unruly, fight provoking acts. Drunk Dudes in bathrooms mocking everyone, Continual harassment of visiting teams fans and little regard for the home or away fans sitting around their seat.

My father was a target at a Chiefs game because he wore his Colts gear. Fans yelled "Kansas City, FIRST DOWN" over and over in his face.

I do not advocate bringing any kid under 14 to NFL game. It is not a pleasurable experience, especially at 80-100 a ticket, 7 dollars a beer and 30 dollar parking.

It is a total different atmosphere at a college game. Students and adult fans tend to get rowdy. I have seen a few skirmishes over the years. My favorites were 2 yuppy dudes in their late 40s, fans of Iowa/Iowa State almost come to blows in the mud outside of Jack Trice stadium in Lames USA. Or the Crappy Wisconsin Dirty Badger fans coming into Iowa City and squirting mustard all over the Iowa Student section. It was bad enough that Ron Dayne was running for 300 bazillion yards in a Badger A$$ kicking. This classless dirty badger act almost started a riot in the stands.

However, for the most part college fans are pretty behaved. They focus on showing their school spirit/pride and enjoying the tailgating atmosphere of a college town on Game Day. No one is telling a dad to shut the F up in front of 9 year old kid in his Eagles jersey or wearing a Cowboys jersey to a game not involving the Cowboys and start a F you chant to both teams.

I am probably the most vocal fan that you will find. I will cheer/scream at refs, players, coaches. I will say the same thing from any seat in the house. I never cross the line by trying to start violent acts against complete strangers solely based on the colors of their clothes.

I doubt Mac G will attend any NFL games in person this season. My NFL ticket in HD, with 3 TVs and continuous live fantasy scoring suits me just fine. No overweight drunk guy wearing camo purple fuba pants in a Todd Heap jersey tells me on my couch that the Packers suck. The only people who mock Brett Favre are my friends and I am not afraid of them. I am just scared of my girlfriend, Miss So Bell. Thank God she is not a Raider fan. Check out this Clip.

BTW, This might be the most successful thing someone in a Randy Moss jersey ever accomplished in Raiders stadium. Punks.
