Stanzi Magic

I was yelling “Stanzi Magic” continually throughout the final drive and stewed anxiously during these final 2 seconds to see if my premonition was about to hit pay dirt.

Oh….My…..Fucking……God.

The exact text message to my Hawkeye boyz: “Stanzi Magic, hawkeyes are destined, its so real that it seems made up.”

When you place this sporting event in a big picture thinking context, it seems silly that a play amongst 19-21 year old males could have such an emotional impact on your daily life. To an irrational and passionate Hawkeye/Husker fan like myself, the Hawkeye victory saved what could have been the worst college football day ever and positively changed the outlook of my life in the Fall of 2009.

After Nebraska suffered another demoralizing home upset defeat at the hands of a gritty undermanned Iowa State Cyclone squad, Iowa’s BCS/Rose Bowl chances going up in flames would have been a double whammy soul crusher. It would have taken me weeks to recover and I am not afraid to admit this flaw of mine. Hell, the Brett Favre Vikings ordeal has scarred me in ways that I am not comfortable in talking about yet. (My cat dying, my fiancĂ© leaving me, and my all time sports hero playing for the hated enemy are almost on the similar level of personal despair.) Yes, I am weird/crazy MoFo.

The Stanzi/McNutt combination will go down as one of the top plays in Hawkeye history and might just be the defining moment of a special season.

On Sunday morning, I woke up from my alcohol-induced slumber and immediately pondered if that play really transpired. These types of things do not happen to us Hawkeye fans and we wait around for bad things to happen for good reason, which is based on past repetitive disappointments. (Distinct losses that I witnessed in person over and over and over still traumatize me to this day. I was so close for this heartbreaking hoops defeat that you can almost see me in St. Patty’s Day gear) This devastation has bred quite a severe case of pessimistic cynicism in myself and some of my fellow Hawkeye brahs/brahettes.

However, this play did happen, Iowa is 8-0 for the first time ever, Hawkeyes has won 12 in a row dating back to last season, computers really do have them ranked number one, their BCS ranking is 4 and a Rose Bowl berth seems in reach. The national media is finally taking notice that Iowa is now a legitimate national championship contender.

My initial mass text on Sunday summarizes the feelings of gradual but bewildered acceptance of what is transpiring to Hawkeye nation.

“Did the sports gods really shine on the Hawkeyes? 5 wins from a national title? Holy Fucking Shit!”

Stanzi Magic, Believe It.

McNutt It.

Hawkeye Burns UM Wolvermuts

I do not post many forward emails because they are either distasteful/unfunny jokes, dirty porn or distorted rants declaring that President Obama is the anti Christ.

However, I made an exception for this one.

A recent graduate of Iowa moved to Dearborn, Michigan when shelanded a great job with a company located there. After becoming a citizen of Michigan, she felt almost as if she had betrayed her Iowa background and ancestry. She had an apartment with a Michigan address, and she winced whenever she looked at her Michigan driver's license. When it came time to register her vehicle she had an idea. She'd get personalized plates and make things right.

The personalized license plate for her car arrived, and she beamed as she installed them. She was so proud she sent an instant message to her father right away. He too was a proud Iowa alumnus.

'Daddy,' she typed. 'I'm so excited! I got new, personalized plates for my Mini today. They're University of Michigan plates!'

'WHAT?' he replied, 'You have to be joking!'

'Nope, I'm totally serious. Let me send you the image.'

Her father couldn't stop laughing after he viewed the picture of her car.

"Betraying your Iowa ancestry" is a little too much Iowa pride for my tastes but I am thoroughly impressed with how she rolls now.

Personally, I would worked into mocking the hand on the plates because every Michigander that I have ever met loves to point out their hometown to each other on their hand. A tip for all those single dudes or philanders out there, poking fun at this weird hand obsession works great as an ice breaker in convos with women from Michigan.

War Chizik? War Hawkeye State

Auburn fans are pissed Gene Chizik was selected over my man, former Husker great, current Buffalo coach Turner Gill. Iowa State fans are happy to cut an overwhelmed Chizik loose from their lowly program and this guy brings out the knife to Chizik's Cyclown tenure in Lames USA.

Hey Cyclown AD, Jamie Pollard, let me give you a few tips. Iowa will forever be the Hawkeye State, know your place in the pecking order and do not mess with karma by forcing Hawkeye fans to buy Iowa State season tickets so they can watch the Hawks at your crap stadium.

I am not fooled by your crocodile tears either and stop lying about other school's wanting to employ you. Iowa State is the best gig you could get right now with your recent dismal track record. A major school president hiring you would be dumber than firing a 85-40 coach to hire a 5-19 one.

Your only success, Polesmoker, is putting the snake oil salesman hat on and hitting up ISU alumni for money by promising them this winning tradition. You have raised by more money but it just appears to be one big marketing scam and Wall Streetesk Ponzi scheme.

Iowa State football still sucks and now Iowa State basketball is in the dumps.

I will give you credit for only screwing people out of millions and not billions like Bernie Madoff.

Luckily, Chizik will be a good scapegoat to save your hide for a few more seasons and blame your own inefficiencies on others.

Never forget Pollarcock, Iowa is the HAWKEYE State. Welch Ave will ALWAYS suck compared to the Ped Mall. The Cyclown study body has come to grips with these facts, time for you to deal with it too, Dbag.

Black Heart Gold Pants breaks down the candidates for the Iowa State job and I think body paint dbag could win at least 6 games in 2 seasons at Lames College. No question he could out maneuver Hawkeye OC Ken O'Keefe for an upset victory, which usually marks the climax of the Cyclown football fan's existence.

Hawkeye Blues Part 2

NEW UPDATE DOWN BELOW!!

The big building above is an University of Iowa dorm called Mayflower. Here is what the dorm normally looks like.

If you have ever been to Iowa City, Dubuque Street is the main road into the city and it is an exit from I-80 interstate. Dubuque Street is completely under water and the major Mayflower dorm looks screwed.

They expect the Iowa river to raise up 5 more feet by Saturday and I am getting text messages on Thursday night of people being rescued from houses in Coralville, Iowa, which is basically a suburb of Iowa City.

A Coralville levee just broke and flood waters are now filling the main business district, labeled the Coralville strip. It should be completely under water by mid day on Friday.

Here is a video segment from the Daily Iowan

The pictures were from the Iowa City Press Citizen and their website headline reads "Evacuate!"
I located a University Iowa webcam and as the waters continue to rise rapidly over the next 48 hours, you should be able to watch it at this link.

U of I has set up a flood watch blog.

Cedar Rapids, a town of 125K that is about 30 minutes North of Iowa City is completely Fd and their downtown is under water. The flood waters are predicted to crest at 32 feet in CR which is 12 feet over the 1993 all time record and a staggering 20 feet over what is considered a flood. The pictures are breathtaking.

These pictures below are from Thursday evening and if you compare the building which I believe is the court house, you can see how much the water is still rising.

More shocking pictures of the Cedar Rapids flood can be found at this link.

These waters will funnel into the Mississippi and more record disaster is upcoming down river. I am still furious that we do not have 100-200K troops OCCUPYING Iowa right now helping out with prevention and protection of these communities.

Homeland Security? what a complete joke and budget albatross. There only use is having press conferences with the FBI to tell us how they just saved us from some big scary attack so they can get some cheap splashy headlines, even though the majority of cases never hold up in a court of law. Maybe they can stop trying to set up troubled muslim pizza delivery drivers and actually save/secure the Fn homeland.

Hawkeye Blues Part 1

UPDATE: Coralville is way FD! Here is a an amazing video link of a guy driving down the strip as the waters flood the road.

Hawkeye Blues Part 1

UPDATE 2:
Army Corps of Engineers staff informed Iowa City staff Friday morning, June 13, that the current water level of the Coralville Reservoir is 715.9 feet, 3.9 feet over the spillway. The level in the Reservoir is expected to peak at 717.7 at midnight on June 16th. Inflows to the Reservoir are peaking today, Friday, June 13, with an estimated 50,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) inflow.
Possible maximum flow expected during this flood event in the Iowa City area is 44,000 cfs, expected late Monday, June 16.

This correlates to an additional 4-1/2 to 5 feet of additional water. Additional rain may add to and delay the peak. The maximum flow experience in 1993 was 28,200 cfs. The flood of 2008 is now anticipated to be near or exceed a 500-year flood event.

Obama's Speech that Ignited his Presidential Flame

Here is the speech from last November at the Iowa Jefferson Jackson Dinner that started Obama's rise in the Democratic presidential primary process.

You can disagree with Obama's policy proposals or be cynical towards his fresh new political approach but there is no denying that this man can move an audience with his oratory skills and mere presence.

I Heart Lara Logan

CBS journalist and super hottie, Lara Logan went on the Tonight Show and told Jay Leno about her experience with reporting in Iraq/Afghanistan. I have loved Lara forever(I am a sucker for accents!) and she goes right to the point about the lack of humanizing coverage of the Iraq occupation.

Go to 2:42 left in the video below to see how she thinks things are going very badly in Iraq or you can find a condensed clip of her comments here.

It turns out hottie Lara is married to former European professional basketball player, Steve Simon. I was going to take some pot shots at him but it turns out he was Power Forward and looks pretty ripped.

Plus, Simon has some Iowa ties of being born in my boy Scooter's hometown of Spirit Lake. Scooter has a graduate degree from Okoboji University in beverage making and the best 3 months of my life were spent one summer up at the Lake Resort of Okoboji.
